Meet Our Instructor:
Kailii Richardson
I'm not what you would call a “cookie cutter” teacher. My teaching style is unique because I like to
adapt to each student’s needs. In life,
you learn that one thing may work for one person, but it may not necessarily
work for another because everybody learns differently. So that's why I don't teach my students
using any one method; I take ideas from different methods that I
have learned throughout the years and apply them where I see a need for
it. Also, I try not to get too caught up
on “music talk” when I'm teaching because I don't want to confuse my
students. I only mention the vocabulary
that they need to know, depending on their level at the time, and I present it
in a way that's easy to understand and that they can relate to. Lastly, I like to teach the student something
that they are interested in. If they are
interested in another genre other than classical, I'm happy to find pieces
that are at their level and that are in their genre of choice. That way, I can ensure that the student is
enjoying what they are doing and that they are motivated to practice.
Teaching Philosophy
No matter what, students should love what they do. So, I believe teachers should serve as role models for their students. Children have a way of sensing whether a teacher enjoys what they do and that really affects their behavior and motivation. So we as teachers should always be there for our students, encouraging them when they feel that they can’t do something and correcting them when they are doing something wrong. If we can be confident in what we are teaching, then our students will be confident in what they are doing because they trust us. I believe a teacher should develop a relationship with their students based on love, trust, honesty and confidence. It's through this relationship that we can effectively teach our students.
